Project Description:
This project included the design and construction of 9 buildings on a 4.25 hectare site including: a 3 story New Office Building (NOB) and perimeter wall; 3 Compound Access Control Buildings (CACs); Marine Security Guard Quarters (MSGQ); Utility Building; GSO Support Annex/Warehouse; Recreational facility; and Parking Garage (Total Building Area: 17,590 GSM).
The complex maximizes its open space both on the site and within the buildings giving visitors and employees a feeling of comfort within a secure compound. The 10,000 square meter NOB is clad with local quarried Romanian travertine and Romanian limestone, with grey limestone as an accent. To maximize solar control, the office building is oriented on an east/west axis with sunshades protecting the windows in the morning and afternoon. Interior finishes in public spaces employ the exterior palette for continuity and impact. A grand staircase connects a two-level gallery in the central core. Materials featured throughout this space include marble flooring, wood paneling, and glass handrails.
Other buildings on the site similarly use the stone finishes of the NOB and use a cementitious coating relating to traditional stucco finishes in Romania. The new office building incorporates the latest in technical, physical and environmental security including building automation, life safety and emergency power generation per the requirements of the Department of State.
